Eddsworld Reanimatedd is a collaborative fan project which brought together over 150 animators to recreate two episodes and two shorts of the webtoon Eddsworld . Every shot of the recreated episodes was done by a different animator. I hosted, organized, and edited all four collabs.

WTFuture has always been a favorite episode of mine, and on the heels of successful collabs like Shrek Retold and Band Geeks Reanimated , I figured it was only a matter of time before someone hosted an Eddsworld collab. I had already made a good number of friends through another Eddsworld fan project, and with their support we got the first Reanimatedd up and running. I clipped the entire episode into short clips, and sent each animator a corresponding scene to reanimate as they applied through our email or Discord. Slots filled up very quickly, and before long we had over 80 animators working on the project. Several animators who worked on this would go on to work on Eddsworld officially, and many others would find their own success working on other prominent animated shows such as Smiling Friends and Helluva Boss.

WTFuture Reanimatedd released to massive success within the Eddsworld fandom, with swarms of up-and-coming animators excited to work our next project. Just a few months later, we started up the Spares collab. The production of this one would prove to be a bit tumultuous due to the sheer amount of interest, but it eventually released on May 16th 2022, the 14th anniversary of the original episode.

While progress on Spares was chugging along slowly, an idea struck to help revitalize activity. I realized that the anniversary of one of Eddsworld’s most popular shorts, Doing , was only a week away. Doing had recently become somewhat of a cult-favorite within the Eddsworld community after being pitted against Fun Dead (their most popular video ever) in an official episode bracket. It was a completely unfair match, so some friends and I started a movement to help push Doing to victory: #DoingGang. The movement ultimately failed, but coming off the heels of this, we were amped to make some Doing content. Within about 5 days, I gathered 7 other artists to reanimate the 31-second short. Somehow, despite being the shortest and least-effort collab we ever released, it quickly became the most popular video on the channel with over seven million views. I’ll never understand why this happened.

After the release of Spares, I was fried. I was extremely happy with what we accomplished, but overall I was done with doing reanimated collabs, wanting to focus more on projects of my own. However, about a little less than 2 years later, inspiration stuck again while I was combing through some of Edd’s old art and found a drawing he did of Tenacious D. So, we secretly gathered 18 animators to reanimate We Are The D , a brief music video segment from Edd’s old Random Bits series. The video released on April 1st, 2024.
